Police Academy Older Adult Division

This innovative program focuses on skills and safety principles for older adults which empowers participants with information in a fun atmosphere. Facilitators may choose to have the topics presented over a period of six weeks, or condense the presentations to three days.

The program offers a step by step guide for organizations which includes power point presentations, facilitator notes, suggested handouts and everything one would need to know how to organize an academy for older adults.

This program is offered in partnership with the following partners: Addictions Foundation Manitoba, Good Neighbours Active Living Centre, RCMP “D” Division, Manitoba Association of Senior Centres, Manitoba Consumers Protection Office, Manitoba Seniors & Healthy Aging Secretariat, St. James Assiniboia 55+ Centre, Winnipeg Police Service and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority

All seniors are eligible for a home safety and falls prevention audit. Seniors who are 65+, live in the community and have a net income below $25,000 if single or a combined net income of less than $30,000 for couples are eligible for free safety and falls prevention devices. If a senior is a victim of a break and enter or home invasion, the eligibility criteria does not apply and they will receive priority.
